Kigai, who served more than 10 years as RDC in Manafwa, Namisindwa and Napak, said Uganda urgently needs “a sober leader with fresh energy” capable of uniting the country and driving national reconciliation.
Bududa, Uganda: President Museveni’s Former Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Kigai Moses Wamoto, has shocked the political establishment in Bugisu after publicly endorsing presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi during a live broadcast on Elgon FM on Saturday evening.
Kigai, who served more than 10 years as RDC in Manafwa, Namisindwa and Napak, said Uganda urgently needs “a sober leader with fresh energy” capable of uniting the country and driving national reconciliation. He is currently contesting as an Independent for Bukigai County MP in Bududa District.
The former RDC joined Nandala on the radio shortly after the candidate’s tour of Bududa, where he received what Kigai described as an “overwhelming and peaceful” welcome. He hailed Nandala’s issue-based campaigning, calling him “a strong pillar in the politics and development of the Bugisu sub-region.”
In response, Nandala welcomed the endorsement, arguing that Eastern Uganda deserves its turn at the presidency, insisting the region has long been underserved despite its vast contribution to national politics.
Nandala also dismissed what he called falsehoods recently repeated by President Museveni, including claims that he purchased BCU land. “The land was sold by the former board under Wamulugwa, not me,” Nandala clarified.

He also criticised the NRM memo presented to President Museveni during his visit to Bugisu, accusing party leaders of “begging for jobs and misusing resources instead of focusing on regional priorities.”
Political analyst Namabale James Wambede said Kigai’s public backing signals a major realignment in Bugisu politics. “Leaders seeking elective office here must be clear where they stand. Those pretending not to support Nandala may face the wrath of voters,” Wambede said, describing Nandala as “the region’s strongest bargaining power.”
Kigai’s endorsement marks one of the most high-profile breaks by an ex-RDC from President Museveni’s political orbit this election cycle.
