Entebbe, Uganda: Uganda’s U-17 men’s national team, the Cubs, returned home on Friday, November 21, after a historic debut at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, where they reached the Round of 16 for the first time in the country’s football history.

The team was received at Entebbe International Airport by FUFA First Vice President Justus Mugisha, Honorary FUFA Executive Committee Member Chris Kalibala, members of the football fraternity, jubilant fans and media.

The Cubs bowed out after a tense 1-1 draw with Burkina Faso that ended 3-5 in a penalty shootout, but their campaign has been hailed as one of Uganda’s greatest youth football achievements.

Earlier in the tournament, Uganda stunned global football audiences with group-stage victories over Senegal and former world champions France, the latter securing their spot in the knockout stages.

Their strong World Cup showing has elevated the status of Uganda’s youth football program and won admiration from fans, clubs and officials across the country.

FUFA officials confirmed that a special homecoming ceremony will be organised in the coming weeks to honour the Cubs for their remarkable performance.
