Student killed in hit-and-run accident on Pallisa–Kumi Road

Pallisa, Uganda: A student identified as Omawuk Charles was killed on the spot on Thursday evening after a speeding trailer knocked him off the road in a hit-and-run crash along the Pallisa–Kumi highway.

The fatal accident occurred at Konyamatunga on Friday, November 21, 2025, at around 5:45 PM.

Police say Omawuk, a resident of Okaracha Village in Opwatata Sub-county, Pallisa District, was riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration UFC 347E, when the collision happened.

According to a statement filed by Sgt Mutono Fred of Pallisa Police Station, the student attempted to overtake a pedal cyclist and swerved to the right, where he collided with an oncoming trailer.

“The trailer knocked him off the road and continued towards Kumi without stopping,” the report reads. The identity and registration details of the trailer remain unknown.

Bukedi North Police Spokesperson ASP Kyempasa Wilfred confirmed that traffic police responded to the scene, retrieved the body, and transported it to Pallisa General Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

“The motorcycle has been parked at Kibale Police Post for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles,” ASP Kyempasa added.

Police have since opened inquiries and launched a search for the runaway trailer and its driver.
