Kampala, Uganda: More than 400 university students from institutions across the country convened at the National ICT Hub on November 22 for a high-level Inter-University Leadership Conference aimed at shaping ethical, innovative and impact-driven youth leaders.
Organised by the Female Lawyers Network (FLN) under the theme “Strategic Leadership for Youth: Building Visionary, Innovative, and Impact-driven Leaders for a Sustainable Future,” the conference brought together government officials, judicial leaders and private sector partners to mentor emerging leaders on ethics, integrity and national development. The event was sponsored by MTN MoMo Pay, UCC, URA, Harris International and Newman’s.
Senior officials used the platform to issue strong calls for ethical leadership among young people. Pius Bigirimana, Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Judiciary, challenged students to embrace excellence anchored in integrity, saying, “Excellence and ethics are not separate ideals; they are two sides of the coin.”
Deputy Inspector General of Government Dr Patricia Achan Okiria urged students to become frontline actors in the anti-corruption fight. She encouraged them to “stand against corruption, champion transparency, and demand accountability,” emphasising their central role in shaping a more responsible society.

Acting High Court Judge Lady Justice Sarah Lang Siu reminded students that education remains the strongest tool for empowerment, telling them to aim high and pursue knowledge that positions them to make meaningful contributions.
From the economic sector, Akulo Phionah, Assistant Commissioner at URA, underscored the importance of tax compliance among young people. She said simplifying tax processes and improving awareness was key to building a citizenry that supports national development.
Student leaders welcomed the conference as timely and impactful. Tindyebwa Manson from Makerere University said he gained practical insights on ethical leadership. “I have learnt how to become a better student leader with professionalism and integrity,” he noted.
The Inter-University Leadership Conference reinforced the urgency of grooming a new generation of ethical, strategic and visionary leaders capable of driving Uganda’s transformation agenda.
