Rukiga, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni Tuesday told residents of Rwamucucu in Rukiga District that the NRM government remains committed to universal electrification, expanded safe water access and a focused wealth-creation agenda to drive the country’s transformation.
Addressing his first rally of the day at Rwamucucu Grounds, Museveni recalled the state of Uganda’s southwestern region when the NRM took power. “When we came into government, electricity had stopped in Kasese, and Kabale only had a small dam. We extended power to Ntungamo, Kabale, Kisoro and now Rwamucucu,” he said.
He added that the next phase is ensuring power reaches every gombolola across the country.
On safe water supply, the President said the Kashumuruzo and Kabumbiro Nyakarambi schemes have pushed Rukiga to 83 per cent coverage, noting that the government will close the remaining gap.
Museveni also called for strengthened manpower development, especially in the education sector, with emphasis on science teachers. “Uganda needs more science teachers, not because arts teachers are less important, but because we must prioritise where the need is greatest,” he said.
He further urged households to concentrate on income-generating activities that transform livelihoods.
“Focus on what transforms lives: commercial agriculture, industries, services and ICT. The principle remains to prioritise what builds the future,” he told supporters.
Museveni continues his Kigezi regional campaign with stops in Kabale, and on Wednesday in Kanungu and Rukungiri to wrap up the Kigezi region trail.
