Rukungiri, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today concludes his campaign trail in the Kigezi region with final rallies scheduled in Kanungu and Rukungiri, before addressing the nation this evening on the seven key points of the NRM 2026–2031 manifesto.
The President confirmed the end-of-trail engagements in a message posted on X earlier on Wednesday, writing: “I want to thank the people of Kigezi for the warm welcome. Today, we shall be in Kanungu and Rukungiri, and later this evening, I will elaborate on all 7 points in our manifesto during the radio talk show.”
Museveni has spent the past days traversing Kisoro, Rukiga and Kabale, rallying the region on wealth creation, expanded infrastructure, skills development, education priorities and the consolidation of peace and security.
Throughout the trail, the President emphasised the need for households to embrace income-generating activities under the four core sectors, commercial agriculture, industry, services and ICT, arguing that infrastructure alone cannot eliminate poverty unless families take deliberate action.
In Rukiga, he highlighted the 83 per cent safe water coverage achieved through the Kashumuruzo and Kabumbiro Nyakarambi schemes. In Kisoro, he pledged electricity extension to Nyarubuye Sub-county and a new Health Centre III in Chanika Town Council.
In Kabale, he told residents that development must start at the household level, urging them to use programs like PDM and Emyooga to grow family incomes.
Today’s rallies in Kanungu and Rukungiri are expected to focus on consolidating peace, supporting farmer productivity, expanding skills training, and sustaining rural road networks that connect the region to markets and tourism corridors. These districts are traditionally strong NRM bases and a key part of the Southwestern vote bloc.
According to the NRM Secretariat, this evening’s address will unpack the seven-point manifesto plan that the President has repeatedly referenced on the campaign circuit. These include household wealth creation, infrastructure expansion, science and innovation, youth skilling, industrialisation, community service delivery and national stability and security.
The Kigezi tour is part of Museveni’s wider nationwide campaign effort ahead of the 2026 general elections.
