Kazo, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday received a rousing welcome in Kazo District, where thousands of residents, leaders and opinion shapers turned up for his campaign rally. The event drew prominent figures, including former Works Minister John Nasasira, who praised the President for steering Uganda from “backwardness to progress” over the past decades.
Nasasira reminded the gathering that Kazo leaders requested district status in 2016, a proposal the President granted in 2019. He said the district has since benefited from sustained government investment.
“We are grateful that after granting us a district, you continued to send development resources. Today we have electricity, water, health facilities, ICT services and better roads,” Nasasira said, commending what he called one of the most well-organised campaigns in the country and predicting a decisive NRM victory in 2026.
He outlined community needs, including the construction of the Kazo–Kyegegwa road, water extension from Ibanda to Kazo and a new technical institute, while applauding scientific progress in vaccine and tick-resistance research.
President Museveni, addressing the charged crowd, said peace and national unity remained the foundation of Uganda’s steady progress. He credited the NRM for ending sectarianism and building strong security structures that have made long-term development possible.
The President highlighted major infrastructure works in the region, pointing to roads linking Lyantonde, Kiruhura, Kazo, Ibanda, Kamwenge and Fort Portal. He assured residents that water from the Katonga system would be extended to Kazo and that Kazo Health Centre IV would be upgraded to a hospital.
He also confirmed that construction of the road through Kyegegwa and Hapuyo would begin soon, following discussions with Chinese partners.

Turning to household income, Museveni cautioned that government infrastructure alone cannot create prosperity. He urged families to embrace commercial farming and improved animal husbandry, citing the success of model farmers across the cattle corridor.
“Uganda is fortunate to have abundant coffee and milk. Our farmers are already benefiting, and we no longer import milk from Kenya,” he said, crediting Operation Wealth Creation for boosting output.
He pointed to job creation in industrial parks, noting that Mbale Industrial City now employs about 12,000 people while Namanve hosts more than 44,000 workers.
Museveni concluded by urging residents to prioritise wealth creation as the surest path to lasting prosperity.
The President continues his campaign trail on Saturday, with rallies scheduled in Ibanda and Buhweju at 11 am and 3 pm, respectively.
