Faras unveils new reflector jackets with renewed push for rider safety ahead of festive season

Faras Uganda officials unveil new high-visibility reflector jackets and rear guards as part of the company’s festive-season road safety campaign

Kampala, Uganda: Ride-hailing company Faras Uganda has reinforced its commitment to safer transport by launching a new line of high-quality reflector jackets and rear guards for its boda boda captains, a move aimed at improving road visibility and reducing crashes during the festive season.

The rollout was announced during the company’s end-of-year party held under the theme “Safety and Smartness in the Festive Season.” The gathering brought together riders, partners, and safety advocates to highlight the growing importance of responsible road use.

Faras General Manager Kasaija Mudhafar Hamad commended the team behind the company’s steady expansion, saying the new safety gear reflects the company’s dedication to protecting its riders.

“We have a strong team that drives the services we give our customers and the success we enjoy at Faras,” he said. “And today, this team is demonstrating that it cares for you, our captains, by ensuring that you are safe on the roads with these new safety measures.” He added that enhanced visibility remains central to preventing accidents both during the day and at night.

Legacy Road Safety Initiative’s Emmanuel Okiria praised Faras as a model transport company setting the pace for safer mobility innovations. He applauded the company for embracing measures that strengthen road-user protection.

Faras Uganda’s Driver Relations Manager, Abdul Razak, urged riders to remain vigilant, warning them about increased cases of theft and heightened accident risks during the festive season. “There are many thieves and robbers who want your motorcycles. Road accidents are many, and people will be drinking during this season. Be careful. Take care of your bikes, phones, and lives,” he said, noting that safety is an ongoing culture rather than a one-day effort.

Tugende’s Duncan Zimba commended Faras for its rapid growth in Uganda’s mobility sector, while Faras Marketing Manager Katende Karim highlighted the importance of partnerships that elevate the boda boda business. “Every rider who partners with Faras should feel valued. By equipping them with quality safety gear, we are showing them that their welfare is at the centre of everything we do,” Katende said.

Wandegeya Traffic Police Officer, Inspector Adonia Manyire, applauded the initiative, saying investments in visibility will play a major role in reducing road crashes. “We don’t want you committing traffic offenses. Just like Faras has given you reflectors, I have also given my officers new reflectors. These are high-quality, high-standard, visible reflectors. Fellow riders cannot knock you because they will be seeing you,” he said.

As part of its annual tradition, Faras Uganda awarded a new motorcycle to its best captain for 2025. This year’s winner, Nsereko Karim, received the prize after being recognised for outstanding discipline, customer service, and professionalism.

Faras Uganda says the new safety gear and awareness campaigns will help riders and passengers enjoy a safer festive season while strengthening a culture of responsibility on Ugandan roads.
