The company responsible for recruiting the victims is Dream Visionaries, operating under Alliance in Motion Global. Efforts to arrest the company’s director are currently underway.
Wakiso, Uganda: Police at Nsangi Division in Wakiso District have rescued 47 victims of an alleged human trafficking scheme run under the guise of online job recruitment and financial literacy training.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson ASP Rachel Kawala confirmed the operation, saying the victims, aged between 16 to 30, were trafficked from districts including Mbarara, Bushenyi, Kabale, Ntungamo, Mityana, and several communities in the Busoga sub-region.
The breakthrough came after one victim escaped the confinement facility and alerted authorities, prompting an intelligence-led rescue.
According to police, the company behind the recruitment is Dream Visionaries, operating under Alliance in Motion Global, which allegedly lured young people with promises of online job opportunities and financial empowerment programs.
ASP Kawala said investigators found that the group exploits vulnerable youth by charging a registration fee of UGX 150,000, after which recruits are confined in small rooms and stripped of communication for six days as their phones are confiscated.
“Our investigations have revealed that the company exploits vulnerable youth, charging a registration fee of 150,000/- (one hundred fifty thousand shillings). Upon arrival, the victims are confined to small rooms and deprived of communication, as their phones are confiscated for six days. After this period, each victim is individually contacted and given a phone to call their family, demanding 1.5 million shillings (one million five hundred thousand shillings) as “start-up capital.”
After isolation, each victim is reportedly given access to a phone to call relatives and demand UGX 1.5 million as “start-up capital” to remain in the program, a tactic police believe is part of the extortion process.
“All 47 victims are currently in the care of Nsangi Police Division for management and assistance. Efforts to track down and arrest the company director are ongoing,” ASP Kawala said.
Police have since broadened investigations to establish the extent of the network and identify other possible victims across the country.
