Soroti, Uganda: Soroti District Woman MP aspirant Egabu Joan is recovering after surviving a frightening road crash on Wednesday evening along the newly opened Awaliwal–Telamot road in Gweri County.
The accident occurred at around 5:30 pm on December 4, 2025, as Egabu travelled with her sister and bodyguard. Witnesses told authorities that the vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp corner, rolled several times, and landed off the roadway, causing panic among residents nearby.
Despite the severity of the crash, all three occupants were reportedly conscious and able to speak. Residents quickly responded and helped pull them from the vehicle before alerting local leaders and police.
Awaliwal Sub-county Chairperson and NRM flagbearer, Hon. Peter Ebau Ochom, was among the first officials to receive news of the accident. He commended community members for their swift intervention.
“People acted immediately and worked with police to get her to the hospital. In moments like these, unity saves lives,” he said while coordinating emergency support.
Police officers No. 40456 Sgt Chothembu Innocent and PC Emusukut James visited the scene and later confirmed that the victims were rushed to Bethesda Hospital by a Good Samaritan. The motor vehicle was towed to Soroti Central Police Station for further examination as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
