Organisers of the Ateker Cup of Nations have confirmed Ngora District as host of the 2026 edition.

Ngora District earned the hosting rights as defending champions, and we are excited to see the community rally behind this historic event

Ngora District, Uganda: The management of the Ateker Cup of Nations has confirmed that the third edition of the tournament will be hosted in Ngora District, marking a major milestone for the cultural sports competition that brings together Ateker communities across East Africa.

The announcement was made by the tournament’s Chief Executive Officer, Isaac Olupo, during a media engagement in Ngora District. Olupo revealed that preparations are already underway, beginning with a verification exercise for participating players scheduled for 26th–29th December 2025.

He noted that Ngora was selected as host after emerging champions during the second edition held earlier this year in Lodwar City, Turkana County in Kenya. The victory earned Ngora the honour of bringing the tournament home as the region prepares for what organisers expect to be the biggest edition yet.

“The 2026 Ateker Cup will officially kick off next year after the verification phase. Ngora earned the hosting rights as defending champions, and we are excited to see the community rally behind this historic event,” Olupot said.

The first-ever Ateker Cup of Nations drew 26 teams from Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan. Played over four days, the competition stood out not only for its football spectacle but for its deeper mission, using sport to foster unity and development among the Ateker people.

About the Ateker People

Ateker refers to a cluster of closely related communities; the Karamojong, Turkana, Toposa, Nyangatom, and Teso, spread across the four countries but bound by shared ancestry, culture, and language. The tournament has become a platform for cultural exchange, talent development, and strengthening cross-border relationships.

With Ngora set to host the next edition, local leaders anticipate both social and economic impact, from tourism opportunities to deeper cultural pride as the district prepares to welcome thousands of visitors.
