Kampala, Uganda: More than 5,000 leading African scientists, researchers and innovators have converged at Speke Resort Munyonyo for a high-profile Continental Innovation Talks conference aimed at accelerating science, technology and innovation collaboration across the continent.
The December 8 gathering, described by organizers as one of the largest scientific assemblies in recent years, brought together top researchers, technologists and policy influencers to forge partnerships, share groundbreaking research and shape Africa’s next-generation innovation agenda.
The meeting sought to drive coordinated action on climate resilience, health security, digital transformation, industrial growth and infrastructure development — areas seen as critical for Africa’s long-term competitiveness.
Uganda’s choice as host further cements Munyonyo’s reputation as a premier venue for continental engagements. The resort has hosted a string of high-level conferences this year, including the 7th African Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Forum (ARSTIF 2025) on April 7–8, which focused on aligning STI efforts with the global 2030 Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
Speke Resort’s expanding role as East Africa’s MICE hub has seen it host engineering conventions, industrialization summits and policy forums, positioning Uganda as a growing center for scientific dialogue and knowledge exchange.
Participants at the Continental Innovation Talks are expected to initiate collaborations in fields such as agricultural technology, clean energy, digital infrastructure, climate modelling, biomedical innovation and manufacturing. Observers say Africa’s ability to scale these innovations will depend on sustained funding, cross-border cooperation and government-backed policy reforms.
The success of the conference, analysts add, will hinge on whether the record turnout translates into tangible research partnerships, investment commitments and community-impact innovations capable of transforming key sectors across the continent.
