Museveni reaffirms unity, wealth creation gains in final Rwenzori, Tooro rallies

President Museveni arrives to address supporters in Kyenjojo as he concludes his Rwenzori and Tooro campaign rallies.

Kyenjojo, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni Tuesday wrapped up his campaign rallies in the Rwenzori and Tooro sub-regions with a final stop in Kyenjojo District, thanking residents for what he described as a “massive turnout” and urging them to protect the peace maintained under the NRM for the last 40 years.

Addressing the mammoth of yellow supporters, Museveni reminded the Bazzukulu that elders in the region still recall the years of insecurity emanating from across the DR Congo border, noting that the NRM had neutralised such threats and would continue safeguarding the area.

He pledged to upgrade the Fort Portal–Kijura road to boost regional connectivity and economic activity.

The President also emphasised wealth creation as the cornerstone of sustainable household transformation, arguing that true prosperity existed long before modern infrastructure.

“When Henry Morton Stanley passed through Bunyoro in 1887, he found a country full of cultivation and abundance. This proves that prosperity comes from household wealth creation, and every family must enter the money economy,” he said.

After Kyenjojo, Museveni crossed into the Bunyoro sub-region, holding his second rally of the day in Kibaale District. He praised the resilience of the area, citing the defeat of ADF attacks in the Muzizi forest, and lauded the Church of Owobusobozi Bisaka for promoting unity.

“In the NRM, we focus on unity, not religion,” he said, noting that Bunyoro once doubted government development efforts but now enjoys extensive road upgrades “from Kafu to Masindi and Busunju to Hoima.”

Museveni further urged voters to distinguish between wealth and development, highlighting the example of 64-year-old Rubirizi resident Deziranta Tumusiime, who earned meaningful income for the first time after receiving Shs 1 million from the Parish Development Model (PDM). “Development can exist, but wealth requires personal effort at the household level,” he told the crowd.

The President continues his campaign trail tomorrow in Kiryandongo and Masindi districts.
