Kitende, Uganda: Uganda and Tanzania were crowned champions of the 2025 CECAFA Qualifiers for the CAF African Schools Football Championship after tense penalty shoot-outs in both the boys’ and girls’ finals played on Tuesday at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Uganda claimed the boys’ crown after a tight final against Ethiopia that ended goalless before the hosts edged the shoot-out 3–1 to lift the regional trophy.
In the girls’ final, Tanzania also triumphed on penalties after a cagey 0–0 draw with Ethiopia, winning the shoot-out 5–4 to secure the title.
Earlier in the day, the third-place play-offs saw Tanzania beat Burundi 2–0 in the boys’ category, while Uganda defeated Burundi 2–0 to claim third place among the girls.
A series of individual and team accolades capped the tournament.

- Best Goalkeepers: Ramadhan Ngendabanyikwa (Burundi, boys), Lukia Seleman (Tanzania, girls)
- Top Scorers: Nabiru Kajumba (Uganda, boys), Hajra Mawanja (Tanzania, girls)
- Best Players: Muhoozi Henry (Uganda, boys), Lydia Namaseruka (Uganda, girls)
Substantial prize money was awarded to top-performing teams.
- Bronze: Tanzania (boys) and Uganda (girls) – USD 50,000 each
- Silver: Ethiopia (boys and girls) – USD 75,000 each
- Gold: Uganda (boys) and Tanzania (girls) – USD 100,000 each
The championship marked the fourth edition of the CECAFA Schools qualifiers, bringing together young talent from across East and Central Africa in a high-energy showcase of skill, discipline and rising regional football potential.
