Speke Resort adds new multi-billion Pool Pavilion, Sudhir targets festive tourism boom

A night view of Speke Resort Munyonyo's newly constructed open-air Pool Pavilion features shaded cabanas, infinity cascades and premium lounge spaces.

Kampala, Uganda: Speke Resort Munyonyo is gearing up to host one of Uganda’s most glamorous New Year’s Eve celebrations, unveiling its new Pool Pavilion as the signature venue for a night of luxury entertainment, family experiences and fireworks over the Lake Victoria skyline as the country ushers in 2026.

The new facility transforms the resort’s famous Olympic-sized swimming pool, the only one of its kind in Kampala since its construction in 2000, into a premium entertainment hub featuring shaded cabanas, infinity-edge water cascades, high-end day beds and exclusive cocktail service overlooking Lake Victoria.

The Pool Pavilion will serve as the heart of the festivities, with its expansive layout and premium décor already showcased through photos, promising an immersive and vibrant countdown experience for hundreds of revellers.

Business mogul Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, also Chairman of the Ruparelia Group, described the pavilion as a milestone in a two-decade journey of transforming Munyonyo from a quiet lakeside village into one of East Africa’s most luxurious hospitality complexes.

“What started as a family weekend getaway with a simple pool under mango trees has grown into a world-class facility that showcases Uganda’s potential,” he said.

Entrance to the exclusive Pool Pavilion is set at Shs250,000 for adults and Shs135,000 for children under 12. Guests will enjoy a complimentary welcome drink, a Chef’s Special New Year’s Buffet Dinner, live band entertainment, DJ sessions and a grand fireworks display reflected across the lakeside horizon.

For visitors seeking a more relaxed ambience, the Nyanja/Lake Terrace offers an elegant lakeside experience at Shs200,000 for adults and Shs90,000 for children. The setting will feature a buffet dinner, acrobatic and fire-dancer performances, live DJs and the same signature fireworks show.

Budget-conscious revelers can still join the celebrations at the Lake Grill, priced at only Shs20,000 per person, headlined by a performance from Sheebah, alongside top DJs and a fireworks display.

Guests hoping to extend the celebration can book festive staycation packages, with room rates starting from USD 176 for a single room. Management has encouraged early bookings as Uganda’s most sought-after New Year’s Eve event is expected to sell out.

Since its opening in 2001 and its global spotlight as host of the 2007 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, Speke Resort Munyonyo has consistently attracted presidents, global personalities and high-end conferences. The new Pool Pavilion is widely seen as Dr Sudhir’s latest luxury statement—blending hospitality innovation and aesthetic grandeur as he continues to position Uganda on the international tourism map.
