Two dead, four injured as govt vehicle overturns in Nakasongola

Nakasongola, Uganda: Two people have been confirmed dead and four others seriously injured following a fatal road traffic accident involving a Nakasongola District Local Government vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred at about 3:30 am on December 16, 2025, along Wabigalo Road in Nakasongola District, within the Savannah Region.

Police said the accident involved a silver Toyota Hilux, registration number LG 0072087, belonging to Nakasongola District Local Government, which was travelling from Nakasongola Town towards Wabigalo Trading Centre at high speed.

According to preliminary police findings, the driver failed to negotiate a corner, lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, rammed into a nearby building fence and overturned.

The deceased were identified as Mwebaza Ivan (32), a district driver, and Stella (30), a female adult. Four other occupants sustained serious injuries and were identified as Orech Rogers (31), Mugabi Joshua (31), Daphin (24) and Mukanambala Faridah (34).

Police officers responded to the scene, documented the incident and drew a sketch plan. The bodies were conveyed to Nakasongola Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem examinations, while the injured were rushed to the same facility for medical treatment.

The wreckage was later towed to Nakasongola Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles, as investigations into the exact cause of the crash continue.

Police attributed the accident to overspeeding and renewed their appeal to motorists to observe speed limits and exercise caution, particularly during the festive season.
