Kampala, Uganda: The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has told Ugandans to participate in the electoral process peacefully and return home immediately after casting their ballots, warning against loitering at polling stations or engaging in post-vote disorder.

Gen. Muhoozi made the remarks on Monday at UPDF Headquarters in Mbuya, where he presided over the decoration ceremony of newly promoted officers.

Addressing senior military personnel, the CDF stressed that elections should not be a trigger for chaos or confrontation. “We appeal to citizens to cast their vote peacefully and go home,” Muhoozi said, adding that there would be no justification for remaining at polling stations after voting.

The CDF assured the country that security forces are fully prepared to maintain peace before, during and after the elections, saying existing safeguards make crowding unnecessary.

“There will be polling agents, election officials, observers and the media. Transparency will be ensured during voting and tallying,” Muhoozi said.

The CDF warned that anyone attempting to disrupt peace would face a firm but lawful response from security agencies, emphasizing that stability remains a national priority.

He also called on political actors and their supporters to respect the law and avoid actions that could undermine public order.

Muhoozi’s remarks come amid heightened political activity and debate around election security, particularly calls by some opposition figures urging supporters to remain at polling stations to “protect the vote.”
