Namisindwa, Uganda: Several members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) District Executive Committee (DEC) in Namisindwa have been released on police bond after the full recovery of Shs37 million that had been in their possession.
Those released on Thursday afternoon include District NRM Vice Chairperson Charles Nasimolo, General Secretary Peter Mukisa, Finance Secretary Cyrus Kimaku, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) representative Samuel Masaba, as well as the sub-county chairpersons for Namisindwa Town Council and Bupoto.
According to sources close to police, the recovered funds were originally meant for mobilisation payments across six administrative units: Bupoto Sub-county, Namisindwa Town Council, Namabya Sub-county, Mukhuyu Sub-county, Bumbo Sub-county, and Lwakhakha Town Council.
By Friday morning, police formally handed over the recovered cash to Namisindwa District Chairperson Aramazan Wabuko, who later delivered it to the NRM District Women’s League Chairperson, Junic Matuka, for onward disbursement.
By Friday afternoon, funds had already been disbursed to Bupoto Sub-county, Namisindwa Town Council, and Namabya Sub-county, with arrangements underway to clear payments for Mukhuyu, Bumbo and Lwakhakha Town Council.
Sources within the party indicate that NRM Secretary General Dr Richard Todwong is expected to visit Namisindwa District to assess the situation and determine the administrative and political fate of the implicated DEC members.
While receiving the funds, Women’s League Chairperson Junic Matuka issued an apology to residents of Bupoto and other affected areas on behalf of the DEC, assuring party supporters that all future mobilisation funds will be handled and disbursed strictly in line with established procedures.
