Kotido District, Uganda: Nakere Rural Women Activists (NARWOA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, bringing together more than 50 women members in Kotido District to review organisational progress and agree on strategic priorities aimed at strengthening infrastructure development and long-term financial sustainability.

The meeting focused on reinforcing internal governance, improving service delivery, and securing the organisation’s future through member-led investment and accountability.

Among the key resolutions, members unanimously agreed to survey NARWOA’s office land and engage an engineer to design and construct an access road to the property, a move expected to improve accessibility and support future infrastructure expansion.

The AGM also resolved to strengthen the organisation’s financial base, with members agreeing to contribute a one-time lifetime membership fee alongside an annual subscription to support programme implementation and operational costs.

Addressing the meeting, NARWOA Board Chairperson Lokiru Immaculate Rose commended members for their unity and commitment, describing the resolutions as a significant step toward institutional growth and independence.

“Today’s decisions show that NARWOA women are not only beneficiaries but owners of this organisation. By investing in our land, infrastructure and membership, we are securing a strong and independent future for rural women,” Lokiru said.

Executive Director Jessica Ruth Ataa explained the importance of sustainability and collective responsibility, describing the AGM resolutions as transformative.

“This AGM has demonstrated the power of women coming together with one vision. Surveying our land and opening access to it is not just about infrastructure—it is about dignity, visibility and a permanent legacy,” Ataa said.

She added that strengthened financial commitments will ensure the organisation remains resilient and capable of delivering programmes that transform lives, urging members to continue advancing women empowerment with courage and solidarity.

Members also discussed challenges affecting women in Kotido District, including climate change impacts, livelihoods, access to productive resources and insecurity, while reaffirming NARWOA’s commitment to women empowerment, accountability and community-led development.
