Gomba, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assured residents of Gomba District that the peace Uganda has enjoyed for the last 40 years will not be disrupted as the country heads into what observers have earmarked to be tense elections in the country.
Addressing supporters during his Tuesday rally at Nsambwe Primary School, Mr Museveni emphasised that peace remains the foundation of national stability and development, warning that without it, no progress can be sustained.
“Peace comes first; development follows, but it must be prioritised kamu kamu gw’emuganda,” Museveni said.
The President pledged government commitment to improving road infrastructure in the district, naming key routes earmarked for rehabilitation, including Kifampa–Bugomola–Kyamuribwa–Villa Maria and Kanoni–Manyi–Mityana–Ssekanyonyi–Busunju roads.
He also announced that Kyahi Sub-county will soon be connected to electricity, describing power access as critical for boosting household incomes, trade and small-scale industries.
Turning to the Parish Development Model (PDM), Museveni clarified that the funds belong to the people and must directly benefit communities. “PDM money is for the wananchi. Where it was misused, a committee will investigate and correct it,” he said, urging communities to safeguard the programme.
Museveni called on residents to actively manage and defend PDM funds through their SACCOs, stressing that wealth-creation initiatives can only succeed if beneficiaries take ownership. “Communities, through their SACCOs, must take charge and defend what is rightfully theirs,” he added.
