Kamuli, Uganda: First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Affairs Rebecca Kadaga has launched a Busoga regional task force to spearhead grassroots mobilisation for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ahead of the January 15, 2026 general elections.
The task force, unveiled at Kadaga’s residence in Mbulamuti, Kamuli District, will conduct door-to-door campaigns across the Busoga sub-region as part of the National Resistance Movement strategy to secure a fresh mandate for its presidential flag bearer.
Kadaga said the initiative follows commitments made during the Busoga for Museveni campaign launched last month in Mayuge District, stressing that the new structure is meant to turn pledges into tangible votes.
She explained that the task force will focus on strengthening grassroots engagement by encouraging party members to take personal responsibility for mobilising their neighbours and communities to participate in the electoral process.
Kadaga noted that previous elections exposed gaps between projected support and actual voter turnout in Busoga, a challenge she said would be addressed through sustained, face-to-face engagement with voters at household level.
“Our approach is direct. We want messages to reach people personally so that they feel included and motivated to participate,” Kadaga said, adding that face-to-face interaction would help build a sense of ownership in electoral decisions.
She revealed that the mobilisation structure will extend from parish to sub-county and constituency levels, supported with logistics including motorcycles to ease movement, communication, and monitoring of campaign activities across the region.
“We are going to have a network first at parish, sub-county and constituency levels in the region, where we shall provide transport such as motorcycles to take messages to higher levels and to enable monitoring of what will be happening in constituencies,” she said.
Kadaga also assured residents that voting remains a constitutional right, pledging that citizens would be free to vote and protect their votes without intimidation, noting that security would be reinforced throughout the electoral period.
She urged Busoga residents to maintain support for the NRM, citing ongoing efforts to address long-standing regional concerns, including sugarcane pricing disputes and challenges affecting fishing communities along Lake Victoria, which she said were under consideration for harmonisation.
Members of the newly constituted task force welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely, and pledged to fully commit to delivering victory for the party’s candidate in the 2026 elections.
