Kampala, Uganda: Uganda’s music industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of Jackline Nassimbwa, the mother of celebrated rapper Fik Fameica.

The artist, born Shafik Walukagga, lost his mother on Saturday after a prolonged illness. She passed away at Kibuli Muslim Hospital, where she had been receiving medical care for several weeks as her condition deteriorated.

Sources close to the family said the period leading up to her death was emotionally draining, with the rapper spending much of his time at the hospital as doctors worked to stabilise her health.

In the days before her passing, Fik Fameica had quietly taken to social media, appealing to fans and well-wishers to pray for his mother—messages that have since taken on deeper and sombre meaning.

“This is one of the hardest moments of his life,” a close associate of the musician said. “His mother wasn’t just family. She was his backbone. She believed in him before the fame, before the money, before the applause.”

The rapper has often spoken publicly about the central role his mother played in his rise from Kawempe to becoming one of Uganda’s most influential contemporary music stars.

She was a familiar presence at his concerts and key career milestones, quietly celebrating his achievements away from the spotlight.

“She never liked attention, but she was always present,” said a fellow musician who has attended several events with the rapper. “You could see how much her presence meant to him.”

Following news of her death, tributes poured in from fellow musicians, producers, and fans across social media platforms, many describing Nassimbwa as a strong and supportive parent whose sacrifices helped shape one of Uganda’s leading artists.

“This is bigger than music,” one fan wrote online. “It’s about a son losing the person who gave him strength.”

According to the released funeral programme, there will be a night vigil on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Kasana village, Luweero–Bunyaaka, starting at 1:00 pm.

Burial is scheduled for Monday, December 29, 2025, at the same location, beginning at 2:00 pm. Family, friends, and well-wishers have been invited to gather in prayer and remembrance as they mourn the loss.

Tributes have continued to pour in from fellow musicians, producers, and fans, many describing Nassimbwa as a strong and supportive mother whose sacrifices helped shape one of Uganda’s leading music stars.
