Koboko, Uganda: At least seven people, including five adults and two juveniles, were left nursing critical injuries on Monday morning following a serious multi-vehicle road crash along the Koboko–Oraba highway in Kerri Town Council, police have confirmed.
The accident occurred at around 10:40 am on December 29, 2025, and involved a motor vehicle and a motorcycle at a busy junction in Kerri Town Council.
West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson Josephine Angucia said all the injured victims were rushed to Koboko General Hospital for medical treatment.
According to police, the crash involved a Toyota Premio registration UAU 959L, silver in colour, which was being driven by a man identified only as Aimane, who reportedly fled the scene, and a Bajaj motorcycle registration RDC 07AW 037, ridden by Data Caesar, an adult male of Kakwa ethnicity.
SSP Angucia said the vehicle was travelling from Koboko Town towards the Oraba Border along the Koboko–Oraba highway when the accident occurred.
“Upon reaching Kerri Town Council, the driver encountered a double-cabin pickup parked near the junction, facing towards Oraba Town,” Angucia explained.
She added that at the same junction, the motorcycle rider was joining the main highway when the oncoming vehicle collided with the motorcycle. “The incoming vehicle hit the motorcycle, causing the driver to lose control. The car veered off the road to the right and came to a stop after crashing into an electricity pole.”
Traffic police officers responded to the scene, examined and documented the crash, and towed both the motor vehicle and the motorcycle to the police yard pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the primary cause of the accident was the sudden and reckless entry of the motorcycle onto the main highway, in violation of right-of-way traffic rules.
Police said inquiries are ongoing under Koboko Traffic Accident Register (TAR) 086/25, as efforts continue to trace the driver who fled the scene.
Authorities have urged motorists, riders, and all road users to strictly observe traffic regulations, exercise caution when joining major highways, and avoid dangerous manoeuvres to reduce road crashes and save lives.
