Zombo, Uganda: Prominent Paidha Town Council businessman Patrick Nera has died following a fatal road traffic crash late Tuesday night at Abenju Ringi corner in Nyapea Sub-County, Zombo District.

The crash occurred at around 11:00pm on December 30, 2025, in Agore East Village, Oyeyu Parish, near Number Tanu Trading Centre, according to local leaders.

Emmanuel Ovon, the LCII Chairperson of Oyeyu Parish, confirmed the incident, saying the crash happened barely 50 metres from his residence. He said residents raised an alarm shortly after the incident, prompting immediate efforts to save the victim.

Ovon explained that Nera was travelling from Akwanji Trading Centre towards Paidha when he reportedly collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the road at the sharp bend. The impact caused him to lose control, leading to a severe crash that left him with fatal injuries.

“He was rushed to Nyapea Hospital while still alive, but sadly, he was later pronounced dead,” Ovon said, adding that the pedestrian involved remains unidentified and appeared mentally unstable based on preliminary observations.

Linus Opakrwoth, one of the residents who helped transport Nera to hospital, said the businessman was bleeding heavily at the time of rescue.

“We rushed him while he was still breathing, but he had lost a lot of blood. After admitting him, we returned to pick the unconscious pedestrian. When we came back, Patrick had already passed on,” Opakrwoth recounted.

The area councillor for Oyeyu Parish, Joe Ubedgiu, described the incident as tragic, noting that Nera was a well-known entrepreneur whose influence extended beyond Paidha Town Council into the wider Alur sub-region.

Nera was widely recognised for supporting Alur talent, particularly in music, sports, and entertainment.

Renowned Alur music artist Lucky Dee led tributes from the creative community, posting on Facebook: “Am heart broken Nera,” alongside a photo from a past moment shared with the deceased.

By press time, police had not issued an official statement, and the family was yet to comment.

According to the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2024, road traffic crashes claimed an average of 14 lives daily, with most fatalities recorded during evening and night hours.
