KAMULI: Two found dead as police probe suspected murder

Police in Kamuli District are investigating a suspected double murder after the bodies of a boda boda rider and a young businesswoman were found in Namasagali Sub-county.

Kamuli, Uganda: Police in Kamuli have launched investigations into a suspected double murder after the bodies of a boda boda rider and a young businesswoman were discovered in Bukwanga Bumbya Zone, Kasozi Parish, Namasagali Sub-county.

The deceased have been identified as Mawerere Salim, a 38-year-old male adult, a boda boda rider and resident of Bugobi Zone in Kasozi Parish, and Babirye Sylvia, a 22-year-old female adult, a businesswoman and resident of Bulungu Zone in the same parish.

According to police, the incident was reported to Namasagali Police Station on Friday, January 3, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m. by the area chairman of Bukwanga Bumbya Zone.

Preliminary findings indicate that Babirye had been living in Kampala and returned to her parental home in Namasagali for the festive season.

According to her mother, the deceased left home on December 31, 2025, at around 6:00 p.m. after receiving a phone call and did not return. Her whereabouts remained unknown until the discovery of the bodies.

The bodies were later discovered by community members, who alerted local leaders before police were notified for further management of the scene.

Officers responded to the scene, conducted scene documentation and conveyed the bodies to the mortuary for postmortem examinations to establish the exact cause of death.

Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson Samson Lubega confirmed the incident, saying investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and identify the perpetrators.

Police have appealed to members of the public with any information that could aid investigations to report to the nearest police station.
