Kayunga, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni Friday issued a stern warning to land grabbers in Kayunga District, declaring that the eviction of sitting tenants is illegal and will not be tolerated, as he urged residents to understand and defend their land rights.
Addressing a campaign rally at Busaana Town Council grounds, Museveni said land grabbing persists largely because of ignorance of the law, yet the Constitution and decisions of the Constituent Assembly clearly protect tenants.
“You have no right to evict sitting tenants from land,” Museveni said, warning individuals misleading the public that such actions are unlawful.
He tasked leaders of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to sensitise communities on land laws and resolve disputes peacefully, noting that failure to educate citizens has enabled land conflicts to persist.
The President also cautioned residents against buying land that is already occupied by tenants, describing such transactions as deceptive.
“Selling land with tenants without resolving tenancy issues is like selling hot air,” he said, revealing that government has already compensated some landlords and will continue doing so to ensure tenants remain secure.

Industrial Park, Jobs and Wealth Creation
Museveni announced that government plans to establish an industrial park in Kayunga, provided residents identify sufficient land for the project. He said the initiative would boost industrialisation and create employment opportunities, especially for young people.
He pointed to commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services and ICT as key sectors for job creation under the NRM government.
On household income growth, Museveni urged residents to fully utilise the Parish Development Model (PDM), under which each parish receives Shs100 million annually. “Over five years, that is Shs500 million per parish,” he said, stressing that the funds are meant to fight poverty through agriculture and other income-generating activities.
The President warned against misuse of PDM funds and urged residents to report corrupt officials sabotaging the programme.

Museveni cited continued government investment in health infrastructure but raised concern over theft of drugs from public health facilities, saying such practices undermine service delivery and hurt ordinary Ugandans.
He reminded residents that ultimate power lies with voters, urging them to elect leaders who promote accountability and development.
Janet Museveni, Kigongo Rally Support
First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataaha Museveni thanked residents for turning up in large numbers and encouraged full participation in the upcoming elections.
“Don’t forget your grandmother at home, she also has a vote,” she said. “Each one of us has a vote. Together, we are building a great homeland for ourselves and our children.”
NRM First National Vice Chairperson Moses Kigongo urged unity and discipline, calling on voters to support NRM candidates across all levels. “Only tick the bus symbol,” Kigongo said, warning against provocation by opposition groups and cautioning party leaders against misusing security forces for political purposes.
Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among highlighted NRM-led infrastructure projects in Kayunga, including Isimba Dam and Sezibwa Bridge, urging residents to remain loyal to the party.
