Kampala, Uganda: The Victoria University community is in grief and sorrow following the untimely passing of Dr. Tom Mugizi, a senior and widely respected lecturer whose academic service, mentorship, and personal integrity profoundly shaped the institution and generations of students.
In a statement posted via Jte socials on Sunday, January 4, the university said Dr. Mugizi passed away after years of dedicated service to higher education, describing his death as a major loss to the academic fraternity and the wider education sector.
University management said Dr. Mugizi was known for his depth of knowledge, calm demeanor, and unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching.
The fallen academic is regarded as a disciplined scholar who upheld academic standards while remaining accessible and supportive to students across faculties.
Colleagues noted that Dr. Mugizi’s lecture rooms were spaces of rigorous engagement, critical thinking, and mentorship. He consistently challenged students to think independently, act ethically, and pursue knowledge with purpose, earning him admiration from both undergraduate and postgraduate learners.
Beyond classroom instruction, Dr. Mugizi played an influential role in mentoring young academics and guiding students through research, professional development, and life decisions.
