Kampala, Uganda: The ruling National Resistance Movement presidential candidate, H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has entered the Kampala Sub-region, covering Wakiso District and Kampala City Divisions, in the final lap of his nationwide 2026 presidential campaign trail.

According to the official NRM and Electoral Commission (EC) campaign schedule, Kampala Sub-region is the last remaining area on the campaign map after Museveni traversed all other sub-regions of the country.

The President, 81, begins this decisive phase today, Monday, January 5, with rallies in Entebbe Municipality and Rubaga Division, engaging voters in Wakiso District and Kampala City.

On Tuesday, January 6, Museveni will campaign in Nansana Municipality in Wakiso before crossing into Kawempe Division, one of Kampala’s most populous political battlegrounds and a stronghold for the opposition National Unity Platform.

The campaign trail continues on Wednesday, January 7, with rallies in Makindye and Nakawa Divisions, areas that combine residential, industrial and commercial zones critical to Kampala’s voting dynamics.

After the divisional rallies, Museveni is expected to take a brief break and return 6 days later with a grand finale campaign rally at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on January 13, targeting voters in Kampala Central Division.

The Kampala and Wakiso leg comes at a critical moment, with the capital region historically viewed as politically competitive and influential in shaping national electoral momentum.

NRM strategists say the President’s final push will focus on urban infrastructure, jobs for youth, security, service delivery and consolidation of gains made under the ruling party’s long tenure.

Uganda heads to the polls on January 15, 2026, to elect the president and Members of Parliament.
