Kampala, Uganda: The Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba, has assured Ugandans that the forthcoming elections will be conducted in a peaceful and secure environment, warning that no individual or group will be allowed to disrupt law and order.
In remarks shared by the Uganda Police Force on Monday, Byakagaba said police are fully prepared to provide security before, during and after the electoral process.
“I’m giving you full assurance that nobody is going to disturb the peace in this country. Elections are going to take place in an utmost good environment,” Mr Byakagaba said.
The police chief stressed that maintaining peace and enforcing the law remains the core mandate of the Uganda Police Force as the country enters a critical election period.
“Elections are going to take place. No individual or group is going to disturb the peace in this country,” he said. “Our responsibility is to maintain law and order, ensure peace, and make sure that all stakeholders operate within the law.”
Byakagaba added that police are working closely with other security agencies to create conditions that allow all Ugandans to participate freely in the electoral process without fear or intimidation. “We are looking forward to a very peaceful election,” he said.
His assurance comes amid heightened political activity and public debate ahead of the general elections, with security agencies reiterating their commitment to stability, public safety and lawful conduct throughout the electoral period.
Uganda heads to the polls on January 15, 2026, to elect the president and Members of Parliament.
