Kampala, Uganda: Victoria University Vice Chancellor Prof Lawrence Muganga has been honoured with the Education Impact Award of the Year at the inaugural Sanyuka Uncut Awards, in recognition of his transformative influence on higher education in Uganda.

The awards ceremony, held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at the National Conference Centre, celebrated voices, moments and conversations that shaped public discourse in 2025 through raw, honest and unfiltered content.

Receiving the award, Muganga expressed gratitude to Sanyuka TV, its viewers and the Next Media leadership for consistently amplifying education-focused narratives.

โ€œI receive the Education Impact Award of the Year with deep gratitude,โ€ Muganga said. โ€œThank you, Sanyuka TV and the viewers for your continued support. I also appreciate Kin Kariisa and the entire Next Media family for consistently championing education and meaningful impact. This recognition strengthens my commitment to serve even more.โ€

Redefining university education

Since taking office in 2020, Dr Muganga has emerged as one of the most vocal advocates for competency-based education, skills training and alignment of university learning with real-world labour market demands.

Under his leadership, Victoria University has repositioned itself from a traditional lecture-based institution to a skills-driven, industry-linked university, emphasising innovation, entrepreneurship and employability.

Muganga has consistently argued that universities must produce problem-solvers, innovators and job creators, not just degree holders, an approach that has resonated strongly with students, parents, employers and policymakers.

Among Mugangaโ€™s most notable contributions to education reform include; introduction of practical, hands-on learning models tied directly to industry needs, the expansion of digital and blended learning, and increasing access for working students.

The highly adorable educationist is also commended for his strong advocacy for affordable, flexible higher education, the integration of entrepreneurship and innovation hubs within university programs and thorough public engagement on education policy, youth skills and employability.

Muganga’s thought leadership, frequently shared through public lectures, media appearances and academic forums, has influenced national conversations on the future of education in Uganda and across the region.

The Sanyuka Uncut Award adds to a growing list of accolades recognising Mugangaโ€™s impact in education, leadership and innovation. Education stakeholders credit his visibility and bold messaging for helping demystify higher education and refocus it on outcomes that matter to learners and society.
