Kampala, Uganda: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, President Yoweri Museveni, is set to return to selected political “hotspot” areas for repeat campaign engagements as the country enters the final stretch ahead of the January 15 presidential elections.

According to a special NRM campaign schedule seen by DailyExpress, Museveni will revisit areas considered politically competitive, including Kasese and Iganga, in a targeted strategy aimed at consolidating support before the official close of campaigns.

On Thursday, January 8, the President will campaign in Kole and Lira, areas he was initially scheduled to visit at the start of the campaign period but later postponed. The Lira visit is expected to be particularly significant for the President, as two senior Cabinet ministers, Ruth Aceng and Betty Amongi, are locked in a heated race for the Lira City Woman Member of Parliament seat.

From Lira, Museveni will head to the West Nile sub-region on Friday, January 9, with engagements planned in Arua, before proceeding to Acholi (Gulu) on the same day, where he is expected to meet local leaders and party structures.

Saturday, January 10, will see the President pitch camp in Busoga, specifically Iganga District, another area identified by the NRM as electorally competitive.

On Monday, January 12, Museveni will hold a special campaign rally in Kasese District, focusing on Bukonzo East and Busongora North constituencies. These areas are said to have raised unresolved concerns during his visit to the district last month, prompting the decision for a return engagement.

The President is expected to conclude his nationwide campaign trail with a mega rally at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala, bringing the NRM’s campaign to a close.

Uganda will go to the polls on Thursday, January 15, 2026, to elect the President and Members of Parliament, in an election already shaping up as a closely contested race between President Museveni and the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

NRM insiders say the decision to conduct repeat rallies in hotspot areas is intended to reinforce voter mobilisation, sharpen messaging around the party’s manifesto, and allow the President to directly address local concerns in regions where opposition influence remains strong.

With only days left to polling day, political activity across the country has intensified, as candidates deploy final strategies to consolidate support and sway undecided voters ahead of the official end of campaigns later this week.
