Busoga constables police clean Kamuli in pre-election community outreach

Election police constables in Busoga North have carried out a community clean-up exercise in Kamuli Municipality to strengthen police-community cooperation ahead of the general elections.

Election police constables and senior police officers clean streets of Kamuli Municipality during a community service exercise ahead of the general elections.

Kamuli, Uganda: Election police constables in Busoga North on Wednesday carried out a community clean-up exercise across Kamuli Municipality, sweeping streets and public spaces as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the police and the public ahead of the general elections.

The exercise, held on January 7, 2026, was led by the Busoga North Regional Police Commander, SSP Dickens Bindebwa, and involved police constables deployed for election security duties.

The officers conducted general cleaning activities across the municipality, including major streets and surrounding areas, in a move police said was aimed at fostering trust and partnership with residents as the country heads into polling day.

SSP Bindebwa said the initiative was intended to build a strong working relationship between the police and the community to ensure peaceful elections.

“We have done this to create a bond between the community and the police as we head into the election day,” Bindebwa said. “We want to work together during the election period so that we maintain peace in the community.”

The regional police commander assured residents of Busoga North that security arrangements were in place before, during and after the elections, calling on the public to cooperate with law enforcement officers.

“Security will be provided to everybody on election day and after the elections. However, we want the community to work with us,” he said.

Community members welcomed the initiative, describing it as a positive gesture that promotes mutual trust.

Moses Kintu, one of the residents who witnessed the exercise, praised the police for engaging with the community beyond enforcement duties. “I thank the police because they have shown us that we can work with them. I also ask other community members to work with the police,” he said.
