Lions Club Nebbi urged to grow membership to boost community impact

Lions Club International Nebbi District 411B has been urged to expand its membership to strengthen visibility and boost humanitarian service delivery across Nebbi communities.

Nebbi, Uganda: Members of Lions Club International Nebbi District 411B have been urged to intensify recruitment drives and expand their membership base to strengthen the club’s visibility and deepen its humanitarian impact across communities in Nebbi District.

The call was made by Allen Tush Naturinda, the District Governor of Lions Clubs District 411B, while addressing members of the Lions Club International Nebbi during a community engagement meeting focused on humanitarian support for vulnerable households.

Naturinda emphasized that growing membership is key to building a strong foundation for sustainable service delivery, noting that the Lions movement thrives on volunteerism and collective action.

“There is a need to recruit and engage more members so that we create impact, build visibility, and strengthen our capacity to serve communities in Nebbi,” Naturinda said. “As Lions Club Nebbi, it is high time we deepen the spirit of humanitarianism while promoting service delivery to attract more people to join us.”

She added that Lions Clubs International is a global network of ordinary volunteers committed to addressing critical issues such as health, environmental sustainability, and community wellbeing, urging Nebbi members to serve with compassion and purpose.

The President of Nebbi Lions Club District 411B, Dr Jakor Oryema, echoed the call, urging members to focus on fostering fundamental change in service delivery.

“Our goals and strategies are aimed at transforming how we serve. I am committed to increasing visibility and empowering members so that we can better serve the communities of Nebbi,” Dr Oryema said, pledging to pursue sustainable and participatory service delivery models.

He added that the club intends to make a lasting difference by empowering communities with ideas, skills, creativity, innovation, and inclusive engagement across key service areas.

Meanwhile, the Charter President of Nebbi Lions Club District 411B and President of the Greater Nebbi Forum, Dongo Emilio, reaffirmed the club’s readiness to strengthen its membership. “As Charter President, I believe that by mobilizing more members to take on Lions Club responsibilities, we shall grow in strength and serve our community with a clear purpose,” Emilio said.

In a related development, Nebbi Lions Club District 411B donated assorted food items worth Shs250,000 to vulnerable families in Nebbi Municipality as part of its social responsibility initiatives.

While handing over the donation, Dr Oryema said the support was aimed at improving the wellbeing of vulnerable households, adding that the items were generously contributed by members of the club.

“Nebbi Lions Club District 411B is proud to support vulnerable members of our community. We remain committed to finding new ways of giving back whenever we can,” he said.

Dr Oryema noted that the donation is expected to enhance the health and wellbeing of beneficiaries, particularly elderly residents in Nebbi Municipality.

The eldest daughter of 90-year-old Trezina Onyai, one of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the club, saying the support came at a critical time.

“As a family, we are very grateful for this timely donation. It will greatly help us take better care of our 90-year-old mother,” she said, pledging that the family would ensure the items are used to improve her wellbeing.
