Kampala–Wakiso, Uganda: Security agencies have arrested five suspects and recovered firearms in a major breakthrough into the brutal killing of Bagenda Emmanuel, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ntawo, police have confirmed.
According to Rachael Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted between January 24 and January 27, 2026, in Kiti A Zone, Kirinya Parish, Bweyogerere Division, Wakiso District.
The suspects are Amutuhairwe Robinson, a discharged former army personnel; Okello Daniel, a security guard with Fortebet; Kasango Arafat; Luyirika Joseph Innocent; and Alphonse Daniel.
During the operation, officers recovered three firearms and three magazines, among other exhibits. Police say that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to participating in the murder of ASP Bagenda.
The officer was shot dead on November 23, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., along the Ntawo–Nyenje Road in Ntawo Cell, Ntawo Ward, Mukono Central Division, Mukono District, while on patrol responding to intelligence about an armed robbery.
Investigators say the suspects also admitted involvement in multiple aggravated robberies, particularly mobile-money robberies, across the Kampala Metropolitan Policing Area.
“Operations are ongoing to track and arrest additional suspects connected to these crimes,” SP Kawala said, commending officers for their professionalism and reassuring the public that all violent criminal acts will be pursued to their logical conclusion.
