Nebbi, Uganda: The Territorial Police in Nebbi District are holding a suspect after a police sniffer dog led officers to his hideout following the theft of a motorcycle earlier this week.

The suspect, identified as Munguryek Morgan, is accused of stealing a motorcycle belonging to Jakisa Emmy Saviour.

According to preliminary police investigations, the incident occurred on January 26, 2026, when Jakisa woke up and discovered that his motorcycle had been stolen from where it was parked. He immediately reported the matter to police under SD Reference 15/27/01/2026 and requested the deployment of a police sniffer dog to aid investigations.

A team of officers, led by a trained dog handler, responded to the scene, which police say had been well preserved. A police sniffer dog, T/P 237 Pablo, was introduced to the scent bed and successfully picked up a human scent believed to have been left behind by the suspect.

The dog tracked the scent for about 80 metres, leading officers to a location where a motorcycle handle had been abandoned. The tracking continued to a nearby residence, where the dog briefly rotated before heading straight to a pit latrine, where Munguryek Morgan was found hiding.

The suspect was immediately arrested and escorted to Nebbi Police Station to assist with further investigations. The recovered motorcycle handle has since been secured as an exhibit.

Police say investigations are ongoing as they work to recover the rest of the stolen motorcycle and establish whether the suspect acted alone or as part of a wider theft syndicate.
