Zombo, Uganda: A high-powered delegation from the Warr-Palara Chiefdom in the Democratic Republic of Congo has paid a courtesy visit to the Alur Kingdom Prime Minister, reaffirming shared cultural heritage and pushing for stronger cross-border cooperation among Alur communities in Uganda and the DRC.

The delegation, drawn from the Palara Clan of Warr-Palara Chiefdom in Ituri Province, DR Congo, visited the Alur Kingdom Palace at Kal Atyak Wi-Nam on Monday, January 26, 2026. Warr-Palara is one of the eight Alur chiefdoms in the DRC under the Alur Kingdom.

The team was led by Rwoth Ocoun Anyolitho and coordinated by Hon. Omirambe Maractho, the Omirambe Maractho, and held extensive discussions with Prince Lawrence Opar Angala, the Lawrence Opar Angala.

During the engagement, the delegation presented messages and proposals for consideration by Phillip Olarker Rauni III, the Ubimu of Alur. Among the key issues raised were preparations for an anticipated royal visit to Warr-Palara Chiefdom, expected to coincide with the 30th Coronation Anniversary of Rwoth Ogwaro Nyipir III, with dates to be confirmed in February 2026.

They also urged the restoration and development of sacred cultural sites across Alurland, including Wanglei, Locjudongu, Nyadwar, Akaa, Rateng, Aminzi, and Okiyu, as well as the reconstruction of burial grounds for past kings and royals—efforts they said are vital for preserving spiritual continuity and ancestral guidance.

The delegation further requested coordination through Jadipu for a January 29, 2026 visit to the royal grave of Clan Chief Thombu in Acer Chiefdom, Erussi Sub-county, Uganda.

Another major focus was the need for sustained cross-border collaboration between Alur communities in Uganda and the DRC to monitor security trends, strengthen cooperation with national governments, and promote peace and development along the frontier.

The visitors also called for the revival of key traditional practices that underpin Ker Alur authority, including Thumu Caak (reconciliation rites), reverence for Abila (sacred shrines), and the ceremonial use of royal regalia during major rituals.

In addition, the delegation conveyed congratulatory messages from Alur subjects in the DRC to Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, and Akumu Mavenjina following their success in the recent general elections.

They also proposed regular high-level engagements between Alur leaders on both sides of the border to strengthen socio-economic ties and collective progress.

Shared Heritage Beyond Borders

Warr-Palara Chiefdom is one of several Alur chiefdoms in Ituri Province, alongside Ang’al, Mukambu, Djukoth, Panduru and Alur Djuganda. All pay allegiance to the Ubimu of Alur, whose palace is at Kal Atyak Wi-Nam in Zombo District.

Leaders described the visit as part of a broader effort to strengthen the cultural fabric of the Alur people, who share a common language, lineage and identity despite colonial-era boundaries.
