Kotido, Uganda: NRM’s incumbent Kotido Municipality Mayor Peter Abrahams Irar, popularly known as Lokorilinga, has been re-elected for a second term after defeating two independent challengers in Tuesday’s municipal elections.
The results were officially declared by Kotido District Elections Officer Julius Ogwang Ongom, confirming Irar’s victory on the National Resistance Movement ticket.
According to the final tally, Irar polled 6,680 votes, ahead of Muria Tadeo Lodioki, who secured 4,075 votes, while Alex Paulsen Locham, the Central Division LC III Chairperson, garnered 297 votes.
Election records indicate that 11,491 ballots were cast in total, with 11,052 valid votes, 439 rejected ballots, and 28 spoilt ballots recorded.
Speaking shortly after his declaration, Irar thanked residents for renewing their mandate and pledged to govern inclusively.
“This victory is not for me or any political faction. It belongs to the people of Kotido,” Irar said, pledging to prioritise road infrastructure, clean water access, and improved market facilities during his second term.
Locham acknowledged the outcome, noting that he had urged his supporters to back Lodioki in the race. Lodioki could not immediately be reached for comment.
Supporters of the mayor welcomed the outcome, with community leader Namoe Lilly describing the win as a vote of confidence in Irar’s leadership and development record in Kotido Municipality.
