Koboko, Uganda: The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has confirmed that the 34 missing Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) Integrated Science scripts from Bamure Primary School in Koboko Municipality have been recovered and will now be marked and graded without delay.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Ms Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, UNEB’s Principal Public Relations Officer, said the scripts were discovered intact following internal quality control checks conducted ahead of the release of the 2025 PLE results, easing fears among parents and candidates over possible loss of results.
Ms Kalule explained that during routine verification procedures, it established that the scripts of 34 candidates from Bamure Primary School were initially unaccounted for, prompting the Board to tentatively award the affected learners an “X” as investigations commenced.
“The learners were tentatively awarded ‘X’ as a thorough check for the scripts was being conducted at our marking centres, followed by the school,” UNEB said.
The Board said the investigation led to the recovery of a sealed script envelope, which was found secured in the lockable box designated for UNEB materials at the head teacher’s office.
“It is this investigation that yielded the discovery of the sealed script envelope which was found intact in the lockable box for UNEB materials in the office of the Headmaster,” the statement noted.
To eliminate any suspicion of tampering, UNEB said the envelope was first handed over to Koboko Central Police Station, which confirmed its integrity before the scripts were officially transferred to UNEB for marking.
“For avoidance of doubt, the envelope was first handed over to Koboko Central Police Station who collected it from the school and confirmed that it had not been tampered with,” UNEB said.
The examinations body reassured parents, candidates and education stakeholders that the scripts will be marked expeditiously and the affected learners graded in time for the secondary school selection and placement exercise.
“The Board hereby reassures the parents and candidates of Bamure Primary School, and all concerned stakeholders that the scripts will be marked expeditiously and the candidates graded in time,” UNEB said.
The clarification comes amid widespread public concern after reports early this week indicated that dozens of PLE scripts had gone missing in Koboko, sparking anxiety over examination integrity and the fate of the affected candidates.
