Kamuli, Uganda: The Uganda Police Force has confirmed the killing of two police officers in a suspected criminal attack that occurred on the night of February 5, 2026, along the Busota–Kisozo Road in Naibowa Village, Kamuli District.
Busoga North Police Region Spokesperson, SSP Samson Lubega, identified the deceased officers as Nambafu Peter, an Assistant Inspector of Police and Officer in Charge of Kiyunga Police Post, and Bakali Mwanje, an Election Special Polling Constable aged about 26, also attached to the same police post.
Preliminary police findings indicate that at around 9:00 pm, the two officers left Kiyunga Police Post riding on a motorcycle, heading to the residence of the officer in charge. About two hours later, at approximately 11:00 pm, police received information that the bodies of the officers had been discovered along the road.
Police officers responded to the scene and recovered several exhibits, which have since been secured to aid investigations. “Initial observations suggest that the officers sustained fatal head injuries consistent with a criminal attack,” SSP Lubega said in a Friday morning police statement.
He strongly condemned the killings, describing them as a cowardly act, and extended condolences to the families, relatives, colleagues and friends of the fallen officers.
“We recognise the pain and loss caused by this incident and assure the public that all necessary efforts are being undertaken to ensure accountability,” Lubega added.
Police have appealed to members of the public who may have information that could assist investigations to report to the nearest police station or contact security authorities through official channels, assuring that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality.
The force further called on the public to remain calm as investigations continue, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
