Justice Byabakama's Gazette has now confirmed President Yoweri Museveni as Winner of 2026 Presidential Election

Kampala, Uganda: The Electoral Commission of Uganda (EC) has officially gazetted the results of the 2026 Presidential General Election, officially confirming Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as the duly elected President.

According to the Uganda Gazette Extraordinary published on Friday, February 6, 2026, Museveni secured 7,946,772 votes (71.6%), defeating seven other contenders in the highly contested presidential race.

The gazetted results, signed by Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, show that pop-star turned politician, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu of the National Unity Platform (NUP), finished second with 2,741,238 votes, while Nathan Nandala Mafabi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) came third with 209,039 votes.

Other candidates in the race included Gregory Mugisha Muntu of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) with 59,276 votes; Frank Kabinga Bulira of the Revolutionary Peoples Party (RPP) with 45,959 votes; Mubarak Munyagwa Sserunga of the Common Man’s Party (CMP) with 31,666 votes; Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party (NPP) with 33,440 votes; and Joseph Muhirizi of the Conservative Party (CP), who obtained 23,458 votes.

The gazettement marks the final statutory step in confirming the presidential election results and accords them full legal standing, subject only to successful challenge through the courts.

Under Ugandan law, publication in the official gazette formally recognises the president-elect, opens the constitutional window for filing election petitions, and clears the way for the swearing-in ceremony and commencement of the next presidential term.

The publication was made in accordance with Section 59(3) of the Presidential Elections Act, Cap. 179, under General Notice No. 244 of 2026, thereby giving the election outcome full legal effect.

Copies of the gazetted results are available at all Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) offices nationwide and on the UPPC online portal.

Meanwhile, Kasibante Robert, who had filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the election outcome, has since applied to withdraw the case, citing prohibitive legal costs.
