CDF Muhoozi names Tumwebaze, Karugire, Muwumba to run Shs1bn MK Fund

CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has appointed Frank Tumwebaze, Edwin Karugire and Col. Christopher Muwumba to administer the Shs1bn MK Fund targeting wealth creation projects.

Kampala, Uganda: The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has appointed Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, Edwin Karugire and Col. Christopher Muwumba as administrators of the Shs1 billion MK Fund, a wealth creation initiative aimed at supporting viable income-generating projects across the country.

In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Gen Muhoozi said the fund will focus on key productive sectors including commercial agriculture, manufacturing, mining and services, with particular emphasis on tourism and information and communication technology (ICT).

Under the structure announced, Gen Muhoozi will serve as Chairman of the MK Fund, while the appointed administrators will be responsible for managing disbursements, setting operational guidelines and producing annual accountability reports to ensure transparency and effective utilisation of the resources.

The administrators named are Frank Tumwebaze, Edwin Karugire, and Christopher Muwumba.

The appointments follow Gen Muhoozi’s announcement on Sunday that he was setting up a Shs1 billion wealth creation initiative, dubbed the MK Fund, to support Ugandans with viable business ideas.

The MK Fund is part of Gen Muhoozi’s broader push to promote economic empowerment, particularly among young people and entrepreneurs, while aligning with Uganda’s national wealth creation agenda.

As Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda, he has increasingly positioned himself as a youth-focused figure within the ruling NRM establishment.

Political analysts note that the initiative also reflects a growing trend of digitally mediated political and economic engagement, with Gen Muhoozi using social media platforms to mobilise support, gauge public response and directly engage a largely youthful, tech-savvy audience.

Gen Muhoozi said the administrators will soon issue detailed guidance on how interested applicants can submit proposals, including the rules and criteria that will govern access to the fund.
