Kampala, Uganda: The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has appointed Brigadier General Jackson Pande Kajuba as the new Commander of the UPDF Armoured Division based in Masaka.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the Acting Director of Defence Public Information, Col. Chris Magezi.

Brig. Gen. Pande Kajuba replaces Maj. Gen. Deus Sande, who passed away on Wednesday after reportedly suffering severe breathing complications.

The latter’s death came barely a week after the demise of Maj. Gen. Francis Takirwa, the former Deputy Commander of Land Forces, marking a sombre period within the senior ranks of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

Until his appointment, Brig. Gen. Pande Kajuba had been serving as Deputy Commander of the Armoured Division under the late Maj. Gen. Sande. His elevation ensures continuity of command within one of the UPDF’s key combat formations responsible for mechanised and armoured operations.

In the same reshuffle, Col. Wilson Bagonza Rwakanara from the Special Forces Command (SFC) has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and appointed Deputy Commander of the Armoured Division.

The Armoured Division, headquartered at Kasijjagirwa Barracks in Masaka, plays a critical role in Uganda’s military readiness, particularly in mechanised warfare, rapid deployment and support to internal security operations when called upon.

The latest appointments come amid ongoing efforts by the UPDF leadership to maintain operational stability following the recent loss of senior commanders.
