Kampala, Uganda: Police have made a major breakthrough in the investigation of a double murder and robbery at Dave Hotel and Suites in Mbubi Zone, Lungujja Parish, Rubaga Division, with the arrest of a key suspect and recovery of a stolen vehicle linked to the crime.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SP Rachael Kawala, confirmed on Wednesday that, acting on credible intelligence received on February 9, officers traced and recovered the white Toyota Harrier (registration UBH 633M) that was stolen by the assailants on the day of the incident.
Police swooped in on February 10, 2026, arresting Ssempala Allan, one of two suspects believed to be linked to the attack. The second suspect remains at large as investigations continue.
The gruesome incident occurred on February 7, 2026, at the hotel in Lungujja, a residential neighbourhood in Lungujja, where two employees were found dead with fatal stab wounds.
The victims have been identified as Asasira Shivani (30), the hotel manager, and Lawrence Musinguzi (27), a private security guard at the facility. Both were discovered in separate rooms on the hotel premises, prompting shock and alarm among residents and raising concerns over a wave of violent crime in the city.
According to preliminary police findings, the hotel owner initially received a call from the manager that morning reporting he could not locate the security guard and that his phone was unreachable. Subsequent attempts to reach the manager also failed. It was only later in the afternoon that the owner visited the site and found both victims slain.
Police said the assailants also stole the victim hotel’s Toyota Harrier during the attack and fled the scene. The vehicle’s recovery has given detectives fresh leads in piecing together the suspects’ movements and possible motives.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the arrest of Allan Ssempala has led to confessions or further arrests, but investigators describe the development as “a significant step forward” in unraveling the double murder and robbery.
The killings have highlighted rising concerns about criminality in parts of Kampala, with police urging residents to share information that could aid in arresting additional suspects and preventing similar attacks.
