Kamuli, Uganda: The Head of the Chancery Department in the Office of the President, Hajjat Zaminah Malole, has kicked off a Busoga sub-region tour aimed at identifying outstanding Ugandans to be honoured by the President in upcoming national celebrations.

Hajjat Malole, on Wednesday, February 12, 2026, met district leaders at the Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) in Kamuli, where she tasked officials to proactively source individuals who have made significant contributions to community and national development.

“Our mission is to ensure that people who have done good work for their communities and the country are recognised and awarded,” Hajjat Malole said. “There are many unsung heroes in agriculture, education, health and social services whose efforts deserve national appreciation.”

She emphasised that honouring such individuals not only rewards service but also inspires others to dedicate themselves to community transformation.

“When these people are recognised, it motivates others to work hard for the development of their communities,” she added.

The Busoga engagement follows similar tours in other sub-regions, including Bugisu and Ankole. Malole said the exercise will cover all districts in Busoga, beginning with Kamuli and Buyende, before extending to the rest of the sub-region.

Kamuli RDC Rose Birungi welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and empowering for district committees responsible for nominating medal recipients.

“This engagement has clarified our roles as a district committee. We now understand the criteria and procedures, and we shall ensure deserving individuals are identified,” Birungi said.

The meeting was attended by key district stakeholders, including the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), police leadership, the District Internal Security Officer (DISO), political leaders and religious leaders.

The Chancery Department under the Office of the President is responsible for managing national honours and awards, including civilian medals issued during national celebrations such as Heroes Day and Independence Day.
