Mukono, Uganda: A first-year Civil and Environmental Engineering student at Uganda Christian University (UCU) has died after drowning in a swimming pool in Mukono District.
The deceased has been identified as Edgar Muhoozi, a First Year (Recess) Bachelor of Civil and Environmental Engineering student, registration number BM25B32/044.
According to a statement issued by the university Department of Communication and Public Relations, Muhoozi drowned in a swimming pool in Kirowoza, Mukono, on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
He was rushed to C-Care IMC in Mukono for emergency medical attention. However, efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
University authorities described the incident as tragic and called upon the university community to keep Muhoozi’s family, fellow students, and staff in prayer during this difficult time.
“Please uphold Edgar’s family, UCU students, staff and the entire community in prayer. Further details will be shared,” the university said in its brief statement.
The circumstances surrounding the drowning had not been elaborated on by press time, and it remains unclear whether further investigations are underway.
Muhoozi’s death comes at a time when the university community is still grappling with recent tragic incidents affecting students and staff, heightening concerns over safety and wellbeing.
