Jinja police hunt three TikTokers over cyber bullying

Police in Jinja have opened investigations into three TikTokers accused of cyber bullying and offensive communication targeting media personalities Sham Love and MC Omudinka under Uganda’s Computer Misuse Act.

Jinja City, Uganda: Police in Kiira region have launched a manhunt for three Jinja-based TikTokers accused of cyberbullying, offensive communication, and threatening to share unauthorized photos and videos targeting local media personalities.

According to Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson SP James Mubi, the suspects have been identified as Single J, Jeff Piano, and Tasha Pearl, all residents of Bugembe in Jinja City.

The alleged victims are Sham Love of Baba Media Group (Baba FM) and MC Omudinka of Bridge FM, who reportedly lodged complaints at Bugembe Police Station over persistent online harassment.

“They are continuously and purportedly spreading false rumours, threatening, and sharing unauthorized photos and videos targeting the famous media personalities and MCs, that is to say Sham Love Uganda and MC Omudinka,” SP Mubi said in a statement on Friday.

Police confirmed that a case of cyberbullying was formally registered, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities say they are compiling digital evidence to facilitate arrest and prosecution.

“The duo reported a case of cyberbullying at Bugembe Police Station, and evidence is being compiled against the culprits to ensure their subsequent arrest and prosecution without fear or favour,” Mubi emphasized.

Police warned social media users against abusing digital platforms, noting that the matter will be handled under Uganda’s Computer Misuse Act, which criminalises offensive communication, cyber harassment, and the unauthorized sharing of private material.

SP Mubi urged the suspects to delete any malicious content and voluntarily report themselves to police. “We appeal to Human Rights Defenders and the general public to join hands with police to stop abuse of online spaces against women, children and all people generally,” he added.

He further cautioned that police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute individuals found violating the rights and dignity of others online.

Rising Cyber Harassment Cases

The case highlights growing concerns about misuse of social media platforms, particularly TikTok, where disputes between influencers and media personalities have increasingly spilled into public digital spaces.

Authorities say the crackdown forms part of broader efforts to ensure responsible digital engagement and protect individuals from online abuse.
