Kampala, Uganda: WhatsApp has rolled out a new “@all” mention feature that allows group members to indirectly mention every participant in a chat with a single tag, a move aimed at improving communication efficiency in busy conversations.
The update enables users to type @all in the message composer, instantly alerting every member of a group without tagging individuals one by one. The feature is understood to be particularly useful for announcements, urgent updates, and coordinated communication in work, school, and community groups.
The feature, however, is restricted to administrators only, a limitation intended to prevent spam and excessive notifications, while giving moderators greater control over mass alerts.
Users will also have the option to mute @all notifications, allowing them to manage how and when they receive alerts from active group chats.
WhatsApp, owned by Meta Platforms, has in recent months introduced several group-management updates aimed at enhancing moderation, privacy, and user experience. The @all feature forms part of broader efforts to make group communication faster, clearer, and more structured.
The rollout is being implemented gradually, with availability expected across supported devices and app versions in the coming weeks.
