Nebbi, Uganda: A boda boda rider died on the spot in a fatal road crash that involved a Friendship Bus Company vehicle at Thatha Trading Centre along the Nebbi–Arua highway on Saturday, February 14, 2026, in Nebbi District.
According to police, the 2:30pm collision involved a red Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UMA 377BD, ridden by 30-year-old Oyirwoth Kizito, a resident of Pawong Obiya Village, Pawong Parish, Jupangira Sub-county. He was travelling from Arua towards Nebbi Town at the time of the crash.
The motorcycle reportedly collided with a green and yellow Scania bus, registration number UBD 643M, belonging to Friendship Bus Company, which was heading from Nebbi Town towards Arua. The bus driver fled the scene and remains at large.
Oyirwoth sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia confirmed the incident, saying officers responded promptly to secure and process the scene.
The deceased’s body was transported to Nebbi General Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
Police impounded the motorcycle at Nebbi Police Yard, while the bus is under guard pending towing to Nebbi Police Station.
Preliminary investigations indicate that careless driving by the bus driver is suspected to have caused the collision.
The case has been registered as Nebbi TAR 23/2026, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the fleeing driver.
Police have urged motorists, including boda boda riders and bus operators, to exercise caution, avoid reckless driving and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
