Iganga, Uganda: Leaders of Musana Community Development Organization (MCDO) have been challenged to uphold a strong value-driven organisational culture as the foundation for sustainable community transformation.

The call was made during the 10th Musana Leadership Development Program (MLDP) held on Friday at Sol-View Hotel in Iganga Town, bringing together leaders from Musana’s schools, health centre, vocational institutions and hotels across Iganga, Kamuli, Kaliro, Mayuge and Budaka districts.

Delivering the keynote address, Ms Patricia Agarukire Mulumba, Counselor and Founder of Perfect Evolvers Limited, emphasised that strong leadership begins with personal values and culture.

“As a leader, you have the remote to ensure a strong value-driven organisational culture. What you do is what people will know you for. You can only give what you have. If you don’t have culture as a person, then you can’t have culture as a leader,” she said.

She warned that leaders placed in positions without a grounding in values risk abusing authority and weakening institutional integrity.

Ms. Agarukire commended Musana’s founders for sustaining community projects since the organisation’s establishment in 2008, urging leaders to intentionally cascade the institution’s culture to their teams.

“There are leaders who don’t want to see others doing things better than they can. That becomes a problem at the workstation. When working for an entity, you act as a team and combine forces,” she added.

Expanding Footprint in Eastern Uganda

MCDO Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Haril Isabirye Kazindra, applauded partners and staff for preserving a culture rooted in service and community transformation.

He said the organisation’s core mission remains fighting poverty through education, vocational skilling, healthcare services and job creation.

Founded in Iganga with primary and secondary schools, MCDO later established a hotel and a health centre before expanding to Kaliro, Kamuli, Mayuge and Budaka districts. Newly constructed schools in Mayuge and Budaka began operations this year.

Administrator Nalugodha Mike noted that the leadership programs reinforce understanding of organisational systems, principles and culture. “Quality work from any entity comes from good team leaders,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nakatabira Persis, Head teacher of Musana Vocational High School Kamuli Campus, said a strong institutional culture enables schools to produce disciplined and God-fearing learners while promoting academic excellence.

The 10th MLDP was held under the theme: “Building a Strong Value-Driven Organisational Culture.”
