ONC’s Namyalo leads Ramadhan Charity Run, donates Shs10m to vulnerable families

Chief Muzzukulu Hajjat Namyalo yesterday led the Ramadhan Charity Run in Nsambya and pledged Shs10m to support vulnerable families, calling for faith-driven action and unity across communities.

Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye flags off the third Ramadhan Charity Run on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Herman Padel Centre in Nsambya, Kampala.

Nsambya, Kampala: The Senior Presidential Advisor and Manager of the Office of the National Chairman, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, on Sunday led the third edition of the Ramadhan Charity Run at Herman Padel Centre, rallying Ugandans to turn faith into practical support for vulnerable families.

The usually calm grounds of Herman Padel Centre came alive as runners, clerics, youth leaders and community members gathered for the annual initiative organised by a coalition of Muslim youth groups to raise funds ahead of the holy month of Ramadhan.

Addressing participants as the day’s Chief Runner, Hajjat Namyalo urged Ugandans to treat Ramadhan as more than a season of fasting. “Both the poor and the rich need each other. Charity is not about superiority. It is about responsibility,” she said, calling for unity across faiths to uplift struggling families.

Namyalo announced a personal contribution of Shs10 million and pledged additional backing from the Office of the National Chairman.

She further revealed plans to launch Islamic insurance products in Uganda during Ramadhan, describing the initiative as part of a broader effort to strengthen the economic security of Muslim communities.

Millions Pledged for the Cause

The Organising Committee Chairperson, Matovu Uthman, applauded the turnout and praised Namyalo for personally embracing the cause. “When leaders show up physically and run with us, it gives this cause credibility and energy,” Matovu said.

On his part, President Museveni’s lawyer, Counsel Usaama Ssebuufu, who contributed Shs5 million towards the initiative, commended both Muslims and non-Muslims who participated.

Without naming individuals, Usaama criticised leaders who misuse public office to oppress the poor or divert community resources. “What we are seeing here is different. Hajjat always thinks about the vulnerable and even adds her own resources to make sure people are helped,” he said.

Businessman Mr Wee also pledged Shs7.5 million to support the drive.

After completing the symbolic run, Namyalo presented medals and certificates to outstanding participants and later received a medal herself in recognition of her role as Chief Runner.

The Office of the National Chairman, represented by Namyalo and its Head of Communications Moses Kintu, also received a certificate in appreciation of institutional support.
